| A plaque about the Colours of the 2nd Battalion The Green
Howards was unveiled at the Green Howards Regimental Museum in Richmond,
where the two flags are on display. In a ceremony attended by 70 members and guests of the Green Howards Association’s 2nd Battalion Branch, the Colonel of the Regiment, Brigadier John Powell, unveiled the plaque, which describes the history of the Battalion and its Colours. The Colours, which are carried on parade, have been kept in the Normanby Room of the Green Howards Museum for some years. The 2nd Battalion Branch, formed in 1996, now has more than 300 members. Last year it celebrated 50 years since its most recent re-formation in 1952. With surplus funds from the celebrations they commissioned the special plaque. Guests at the Reception held to mark the unveiling included the Branch’s Chairman Stan Johnson, the founder of Eden Camp Museum near Malton, and its Secretary Tom Heron from Newcastle, both of whom served in the 2nd Battalion as National Servicemen. Other guests included Field Marshal The Lord Inge and the former Regimental Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Neil McIntosh. After Brigadier Powell had unveiled the plaque it was blessed by the Regimental Chaplain, Canon Richard Cooper. |
