Issue 11.   April 2001
THE GREEN HOWARDS, THE ARMOURED INFANTRY BATTALION 1997 - 2001
Since the Second World War the Green Howards have been deployed in many theatres and in many situations.   In recent years the emphasis has been on peacekeeping and the role of the British Army has changed to reflect this.   However, though not actively engaged in a major war situation, the hazards and risks to life and limb remain high.   With reorganisation and cuts having been applied to the armed forces with alarming regularity (despite the warnings of history) and with what appears to be little regard or knowledge of the day to day realities and hardships confronting front line combat troops we take pride in the professionalism and steadfastness of the men and women who serve their country so well. This issue is dedicated to those Green Howards who have lost their lives in the service of their country in time of "peace".

Peacekeeping and War,
A sense of deja vu.
History has a nasty habit of repeating itself, - particularly as far as the British Army is concerned.   Instead of training for a major war in Europe, soldiers are again taking on the role of keeping peace, - patrolling, road blocks, convoy escorts, reaction to ambushes or petty skirmishes.....
