A Message from Major-General Andrew Farquhar, CBE
Chairman of the Green Howards Museum Trust

Major-General Andrew Farquhar, CBEOn behalf of all Green Howards I welcome you to the Green Howards website. Our distinguished Regimental history stretches back over more than 300 years and this website allows you to explore the Green Howards' vital role in many major conflicts.  The website also provides information on the current activities of the Friends of the Green Howards' Museum and the Green Howards’ Association.

The Green Howards' Museum is situated in Richmond in North Yorkshire, at the heart of the Regiment’s recruiting area. The Museum  tells the story of the illustrious Green Howards Regiment from its very beginnings to the present day.  Artefacts and photographs of the Crimean War, the North-West Frontier of India, the Boer War and archive film of World War I form just a small part of the vivid presentation of the Green Howards' story in both peace and war. We welcome visitors of all ages to our award-winning Museum, which will be an exciting experience for all and will bring an enhanced awareness of the history and proud tradition of the Green Howards.

Our Museum is also a vibrant and essential link between the current day Army, with information on our successor battalion, the 2nd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards), which was formed when the Green Howards was amalgamated into the Yorkshire Regiment in 2006.

The Yorkshire Regiment has four battalions, which includes the 2nd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards).  They are important members of our Regimental family and their news, together with news from the Museum Friends, Association members and all past Green Howards are vital elements of our Museum - and hence this website.

I hope that the website is easy to use and delivers all you need from it, be it photographs, research material or shopping. I welcome comments on the site and would be grateful for any feedback you may wish to give us, good or bad.

Happy browsing in our virtual space and we hope to see you in Richmond soon.
