There are three memorials to the fallen of the Green Howards Regiment. The main one is at Crépon, in Northern France, the scene of a major action during D-Day on 6th June 1944. The Bell Memorial commemorates the bravery of Second Lieutenant Donald Simpson Bell, VC, and the many men in his Battalion who gave their lives fighting around Contalmaison during the Battle of the Somme, 1916. The Hollis Memorial is a memorial to Company Sergeant Major Stanley Hollis VC, the only man to be awarded the VC on D-Day, and the men of the Green Howards who fought with him.
