GENERAL SIR RICHARD DANNATT - 2009 ![]() At the ceremony for the Constable of the Tower It has certainly been a busy year for our fellow Green Howard. Notwithstanding the commitment to his post as Chief of the General Staff he was appointed Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Bath in the New Year Honours this year and was made an honorary Doctor of Civil Law by the University of Kent at Medway in July. Sir Richard was elected by the Council of the Royal United Services Institute to be their Chairman and took over on 1st September. Having retired as CGS he assumed the post of Constable of the Tower on the 1st August. He is the 159th custodian and Queen's representative within the Tower of London; a ceremonial role dating back to the 11th Century. Sir Richard follows in the footsteps of another illustrious Green Howard, Field Marshal Lord Inge who was Constable from 1996 to 2001. We offer our congratulations to Sir Richard and wish him every success for the future.
