For the first time ever in the recent Lecture Series at the Museum, there were more people wanting to attend than could be accommodated. The audience were treated to yet another superb presentation which was fully illustrated.
In the audience we were privileged to have the company of Mr James Mears, accompanied by his wife June and eldest grandson Mark Haylett. This was a great honour, as Mr Mears and those with him had driven all the way up from Northamptonshire (200 miles-plus) to visit the Museum and to listen to our lecture!
Mr James Mears was called up in 1942 and was sent to join 6th Battalion Green Howards serving throughout the Second World War in the Western Desert, Sicily, Italy, and Normandy (D-Day). Mr Mears landed on the beach alongside Stanley Hollis VC and they went on to become good friends.
