RICHMOND SUNDAY 17TH MAY 2009 ![]() Mr Rod Hart receives his Gold Badge in Friary Gardens - Richmond Sunday 2008 Richmond Sunday this year will be held on Sunday 17th May and it is hoped that as many Branches and individual Green Howards as possible will take part. A contingent of B Company, 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment will also be on parade. The museum will be open from 8.30am with last admission at 4.00pm. We would like to show a wide range of photographs from the day on the website. If you would like to send us your digital photographs from the day with a caption we will try to include as many as possible in our news section. Timings and Events 11.15am Assemble at Nuns Close Car Park, at the foot of Hurgill Road. Medals to be worn. All Branches attending form up, under the Parade RSM, WO2 Simon Buckley, in three divisions with the Standards in the centre in file. Parade Commander, Major (Retd) Tom Wharton, takes over command of the Parade. 11.30am The Parade marches off via Quakers Lane and Pottergate to the Regimental War Memorial at the head of Frenchgate in the following order: Band, Parade Commander, Marching Division 1, Standards, Marching Division 2 and B Company 4 YORKS. Scarborough Branch, the winners of the Standard Bearers Competition, will carry the RHQ Standard. Standard to be collected from RHQ on the day. A wreath will be laid on the Memorial and the Last Post and Reveille sounded. The Parade is then fallen out to make their way down Frenchgate to Church. 11.55am Members enter the Parish Church. Standard Bearers form up for lodging Standards. 12.00am Church Service. The Service a. At the beginning of the Service, Canon Richard Cooper will read the Regimental Collect in front of The Green Howards Chapel. The GHA Champion Standard Bearer will turn the pages of the Book of Remembrance. b. The Standards will be lodged at the beginning and recovered at the end of the Service. The Parade RSM will marshal the Standard Bearers. Standards will be lodged to the Green Howards Regimental Slow March and leave to the Regimental Quick March. After the Service a. GHA will form up in Frenchgate, in the same order of march as before, behind the Band and proceed via Frenchgate, Dundas Street and Queen’s Road to Friary Gardens. The Deputy Colonel of The Yorkshire Regiment, Major General A P Farquhar CBE, will take the Salute on Queen’s Road (outside the old Post Office building). b At Friary Gardens, presentation of Gold and Silver Badge awards and Afghanistan Medals will take place. The Parade will then fall out. c. After the Parade, a cash bar and buffet lunch will be organised in the Comrades Club, Newbiggin, Richmond. d. Officers’ will have pre lunch drinks in the Normanby Room, Green Howards Museum and lunch will be in The King’s Head Hotel, Market Place, Richmond at 2.00 pm. e. The museum will be open until 4.30.
