Mrs Styles has very kindly donated to the museum her husband's medals. They include his OBE, Waziristan Medal with two clasps, 1939-1945 Star, Africa Star, Burma Star, Defence Medal and the British War Medal plus miniatures and ribbons. Colonel Styles began his career as a 2nd Lieutenant on 28th August 1935 by the end of WW2 he was a Major but will be best remembered as the Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion Green Howards from 1955 to 1958 while stationed in Hong Kong. He served and became good friends with Colonel John Forbes, the founder and first curator of the museum. Colonel Forbes was also godfather to Mrs Lavender. We are very grateful to Mrs Styles for bringing the medals all the way from her home in Kent. She was extremely impressed with her tour of the museum and plans to visit us again next year.
