NAPOLEONIC SNUFF BOX - THE CASE REOPENED ![]() Marshall Ney's Snuff Box The Green Howards Museum’s snuff box has been re-examined by an academic from Huddersfield University. Paul Wilcock – a Research Fellow in the Department of History – contacted the Museum because he wanted to provide a feature for the latest Yorkshire Regiment Journal. After discussions with the Museum Curator Dave Tetlow, it was decided that the Snuff Box, – allegedly taken from Marshal Ney’s carriage after the French defeat at Waterloo, should be looked at again to determine if there was enough evidence to support the claim. Paul Wilcock says “Researching Marshal Ney’s Snuff Box proved fascinating and an interesting departure from my usual field of weaponry. There are some wonderful items to be found both in regimental museums and private collections. Each has its own story to tell which enhances our understanding of the period and its people. It is important that these items are seen and appreciated by as wide an audience as possible".
